Kayaking

At SWFYC we have a rapidly growing kayak section.

If you are new to kayaking, or have not tried tidal river kayaking before, we offer a FREE training course to all members, covered with a safety boat.

If you already know how to kayak safely in tidal waters and own your own kayak then you are good to go.  We even have kayak storage facilities at the club for only £25 per year per kayak/canoe.

So come and join us on one of the safest tidal rivers in the country.

We have kayak members from the very young to over 70 years old.
Once you have passed the course you can use the club kayaks for only a small donation for the day. So you don’t need to buy your own kayak!

We use safe, stable Kayaks – you do not need to do rollover training!

Paddleboarding

Members enjoy free tuition and can learn how to safely use a paddle board in a few hours on our sheltered waters on the River Crouch.
SWFYC has 7 Fatyak Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUPs) that can be used by members who have completed the club’s “Learn to SUP” course.

As well as being able to use the clubs paddle boards on an individual basis we also have social paddles throughout the summer.

Gig-Rowing

There are frequent learn to row courses throughout the year.
After passing the course you will be able to row with the club socially or in the various race fixtures.

Whether you like the thrill and excitement of a race or just a relaxing row on the river we have both in our events calendar.

Sailing Dinghies

The club also has facilities for sailing dinghies and offers a learn to sail scheme which is free to established members. We have our own club dinghies which you can learn in and also use after you have been signed off from the course.
There are dinghy sailing events throughout the year, both racing and social.
Dinghy storage is available for members who own their own dinghies.

Cruisers

Sailing is one of the best ways to get away from it all leaving the grind of life and work behind, so for sailors based in Essex who want convenient and protected waters the River Crouch is ideal and with the option to travel further afield, as the river leads out into the North Sea, what better place to be based.
Our club consists of many keen sailors from beginners to very experienced so there is a wealth of knowledge and support at hand if you need help or if you just want to come down and have a cup of tea and watch the world go by the choice is yours.

For cruiser sailors SWFYC offers swinging moorings which can be reached up to three and a half hours either side of the high tide and are suitable for craft with twin keels. The moorings are owner laid and maintained to keep costs down (help is at hand if needed).

We cater for vessels up to 4tons and 9metres in length but please check with the club with full details of your vessel before joining.
